Missy and I have been using silk pillowcases for years. We are not the type of women who look cute in the morning. Sure, everyone has morning hair, but WE HAVE MORNING HAIR. Especially after a few days of dry shampoo buildup. Exhibit A:
Silk pillowcases help prevent hair breakage/frizz and are reported to help prevent wrinkles. When silk pillowcases started to gain some traction, I said — sign me up! I was even ready to buy a Slip pillowcase, but at that time they were sold out at Sephora. Since the Slip pillowcases were sold out, I bought a highly-rated brand from Amazon — Alaska Bear Silk Pillowcases for myself and for Missy for Christmas.
How are the anti-aging effects of the pillowcase working? I cannot say. Because I have not woken up with the pillowcase wrinkles indented on my face since I started to use these, I assume that means it is helping.
I can tell you that the silk pillowcases do help prevent insane morning hair.
Of course, I did an experiment for you. Since I am not a researcher or scientist, my controlled variable were not actually controlled. I did ensure to keep the environment somewhat controlled by doing these things:
I will need to do a follow-up on like 3rd day hair with 2 layers of dry shampoo. Since I have been working from home since March, I have not used a lot of dry shampoo. My hair has been living its best, greasy life.
Great results, right? Now, I still have bad morning hair, but this reduces it like 50%. I forget how much it helps until I have to sleep on a pillow with a regular pillowcase. Don’t even get me started on microfiber pillowcases — those are the WORST for my hair. Frizz city.
These delicate flowers need hand washed and air dryed. Take it from me — I have had to buy three. What can I say? My mom did my laundry until I was in college. I had no idea there were instructions about how to wash clothes.
These are the instructions according to Alaska Bear’s website, which is the brand of silk pillowcase I use:
There are a ton of silk pillowcase options out there. You can choose the expensive Slip brand, or try your luck with some on Amazon. Lucky for you, Missy and I have tried a lot of the different brands on Amazon, and like the Alaska Bear silk pillowcases the best.
